By now, it should come as no surprise to anyone that I'm an enormous fan of superheroes. Ever since I watched Superman fly as a kid, laying on my living floor, while that amazing John Williams music played, I was hooked. In fact, it was both superheroes, and Star Wars, that started me on the path or becoming an artist. Without having those two things in my life, you wouldn't be reading this and would most likely be doing something infinitely more boring - like your taxes. ::Side note to self - file my taxes - tax season..arg!!::
As I grew older, the X-Men cartoon debuted on Fox. This was back in the day when "Saturday morning cartoons" was an actual thing. Believe it or not, you'd get up early on Saturday and the 4 big networks; ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC, would play cartoons until about noon. X-Men was one of those cartoons and it came on at 11 am on FOX. Those of us that watched X-men can no doubt remember the opening intro even now (it's playing in my head as I type this). If you don't remember this awesomeness (SHAME ON YOU) you can check it out here: https://youtu.be/sAkL2-vh2Sk
I always wanted to draw comic books when I got older. I always wanted to capture that feeling I felt as a kid. Seeing a man fly for the time - or a team of superheros defending a world that hates and fears them (Official X-Men tag line) Thinking that anything was possible. It was incredible. It IS incredible.
Every time I draw a picture of superheroes, I'm going back in time and high-fiving my 9 year old self.
