Avengers Assemble!

By now, it should come as no surprise to anyone that I'm an enormous fan of superheroes. Ever since I watched Superman fly as a kid, laying on my living floor, while that amazing John Williams music played, I was hooked. In fact, it was both superheroes, and Star Wars, that started me on the path or becoming an artist. Without having those two things in my life, you wouldn't be reading this and would most likely be doing something infinitely more boring - like your taxes. ::Side note to self - file my taxes - tax season..arg!!::

As I grew older, the X-Men cartoon debuted on Fox. This was back in the day when "Saturday morning cartoons" was an actual thing. Believe it or not, you'd get up early on Saturday and the 4 big networks; ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC, would play cartoons until about noon. X-Men was one of those cartoons and it came on at 11 am on FOX. Those of us that watched X-men can no doubt remember the opening intro even now (it's playing in my head as I type this). If you don't remember this awesomeness (SHAME ON YOU) you can check it out here: https://youtu.be/sAkL2-vh2Sk

I always wanted to draw comic books when I got older. I always wanted to capture that feeling I felt as a kid. Seeing a man fly for the time - or a team of superheros defending a world that hates and fears them (Official X-Men tag line) Thinking that anything was possible. It was incredible. It IS incredible.

Every time I draw a picture of superheroes, I'm going back in time and high-fiving my 9 year old self.

Enjoy the drawing! -Matty AvengersAssemble

Thursday - Breaking Bad - Why Not?

I really enjoyed Breaking Bad, shock I know. Like most of us, I'm sad that it's no longer in my Sunday lineup - or more accurately, my binge watch 5 episodes back-to-back because I can never keep up line-up. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul were great to watch and had some pretty amazing chemistry. Vince Gilligan absolutely raised the bar of what a showrunner can accomplish - every episode of Breaking Bad was great, moved the story forward, and more importantly - had a reason for existing. There were no filler episodes. Truly an amazing accomplishment. Every once in a while I like to create a drawing for myself. Yes, custom art makes an excellent personalized gift. Well, sometimes, you can't get any more personal than giving a gift to yourself! Breaking Bad

Although Breaking Bad is no longer with us, it did leave us with the excellent Better Call Saul. Maybe another personal gift is in order...

Custom Art is Your Pick-up Truck

Being an artist is a lot like owning a pick-up truck. Okay, strange comparison, I know, bear with me here for a moment. As most people will admit, whenever it's time to move, pick-up some over sized package, or - I don't know - grab that nice looking piece of furniture from the yard sale that you have absolutely no room for in your house but you swear you'll paint it and find a place for it in that office you've been "putting in your spare room" for 2 years now, everyone thinks of their closest friend who owns a pick-up truck (or sometimes a jeep). Nine times out of ten, that person can be persuaded to assist with the purchase of gas at the least, pizza and beer at the most. True? Still with me? Okay, I was comparing owning a truck to being an artist. Well when it comes to coming up with a great personalized gift an artist is your pick-up truck. Here's a piece of custom art I created for a wedding my wife and I attended back in October. custom art

It went over really well. Not only did it look great in a frame, custom art is 100% original and, as an added side bonus, it can't be re-gifted either.

Still with me - see, I told you that would make sense. Wait - what, it didn't make sense. Well either way - if you're in need for a gift that's one of a kind and from the heart, Drawn to Heal can help.

As always, we're a pay what you want art service with half of all profits going to charity. Although I do love pizza and beer, we request that payment be made in a currency that can be donated.
